Canadian winter wonderland for Ron Kelly’s birthday

It was a Canadian winter wonderland for the Hilton Hotel’s owner Ron Kelly who celebrated his 65th birthday on January 5. The wintry season was replicated in the top floor Les Ambassadeurs and its adjoining lobby.

Nattily dressed guests partook of premium cocktails before repairing to dinner, which boasted names such as Neptunelux, a duo of Atlantic salmon, snow crab leg and tempura roll served with frozen vodka; Newfoundland clam chowder was The Pot; Snowball was ice flake with maple syrup and dark rum; and The Grand Lake was grilled lobster tail served with light garlic butter sauce, medallion of beef served with cranberry sauce, fresh asparagus, Duchess potatoes and pumpkin. The Indian Treat was warm apple crisp served with vanilla ice cream and Maple sauce.

Mr Kelly’s elder brother, John, and younger brother Hubert, who travelled to Jamaica for his birthday, toasted the “great brother” that Ron is. They also thanked his wife, Bonnie for supporting their brother for the past 10 years.

Ron thanked everyone for their presence and told them that they were there as they had supported him over the years. He also thanked his Hilton staff for their support and the white-gloved spread they laid out for his milestone birthday, and his cousin, Dr. Jim Hanley, who he says, keeps him in touch.

Dwight Pinkney and Friends entertained musically and backed guests in singing both the traditional and Jamaican happy birthday songs to Ron Kelly.
